Memo from Martin P Burns of PricewaterhouseCoopers

-------------------- Start of message text --------------------

Hi Flavia

This is OT for thechat :-) so I've forwarded it to thelist, but basically,
the designers will own everything which
1) Wasn't provided by the client
2) The contract doesn't explicitly assign to the client.

So if you've agreed with the client to hand over working documents like
the layered PSDs, then do that. If not, don't.

Cheers
Martin

Subject: [thechat] intellectual property/copyright/final work

The questions I have are in regards to intellectual property/copyright
of web design work.

I heard that although the client has the rights over the final product,
the designer still owns the rights to individual art creation such as
images, scripts, etc.

When handing the final product to the client, should we hand in the PSD,
AI, FLA files with it or we only hand in the final product with the
gifs, jpgs and swfs?
