Why reinvent the wheel? Start with a Snitz forum and change it as needed.
I'm running about 8 of them, all diferent, and they all work a treat.

The biggest board I've seen has 30,000 members and 120,000 posts. It's
robust, to say the least, and there are a slew of very nice,
ready-to-install mods for it.  The code is "all there" to modify to your
heart's content, and pretty stright-forward.
