If you don't do that, you'll be editing .htaccess anyway to ensure that http://www.domain.com/ looks for http://www.domain.com/index.shtml as well as/rather than index.html At some point, I'll document a bunch of SSI/XSSI stuff I use in my site as an evolt tutorial.
