Go for tif. This Format supports all colors, mask (as a path), and does
compress to some quality. It is also reliable through platforms, and
quality loss isn't an issue. (BMP is quite similar, but it's proprietary
format wich not all applications can swallow)

EPS is fine, too, though some application (such as Quark Xpress) are
better served with tif. 

Just _don't_ use any formats that are optimized for bandwidth issues,
like jpg, or gif, because those formats compress the file in a "loose
quality"-way. Unless you exactly know you won't ever have to reuse,
alter, or whatever the image.
