Even if closing a browser program was possible with web scripting, you
just wouldn't want to do it. If you are running a proprietary program
such as director, you could have it close the application. If you want
to use proprietary VB script, you may also be able to do it. However,
it is very disconcerting on the usability aspect to have applications
"take over ones computer". For example, what if your clients nifty
program closed a browser with important web pages open in the
background?

The real reason web developers get paid the big bucks (unless of course
you are a small business or freelance) is for their diplomacy. You must
tell dim and ignorant clients that some things just aren't wise or
recommended. It is your job to make sure clients dont obfuscate or
compromise otherwise great projects you design personally. I created a
flash intro for a client that is used to sell small business tools. It
is embarrassing, ineffective, and I wont ever do it again.
