  Yes, I read several times that one should not respond to spam.
If they respond, the spammer knows that the address is 'live'
and they can sell it to other spammers as a confirmed address.
So, by confirming, you are enabling the spammer to make money
off of you.

  Just treat the spam as nothing more than junk mail.
Throw it out.
