when it's included via the src attribute of a script tag?

text/javascript

that's right.  it doesn't matter what the file extension of the document
being requested is so long as the two things are set properly

1)  the type attribute is set to "text/javascript"
2)  the server sends the file requested with the
    correct mime-type -- "text/javascript"
