Does anyone have (or claim to have) a good handle on the implications of the
new European Directive on website development?

A few starter links are http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/23/22826.html,
http://www.cookiecentral.com/.

My understanding of the European Directive is that if you wish to use
cookies, you have to ask. So, perhaps this could be as simple as using a
checkbox. It also sounds that if a site asks a users permission to use
cookies, it is legal to deny them entry if they do not wish to use cookies -
or rather - it sounds like there is nothing in the law saying such an
approach is illegal.

My understanding of the Data Protection act is that if a website was to
store information regarding a users use of that site e.g. visited page X for
Y minutes on Z date, that website by law has to be able to show that
information to the user if they wish to see it. Wouldn't have thought that
would be a problem.

Has anyone got any comments on the above?
