[thelist] support for align="char"

Hi guys,
Does anyone know if the align="char" attribute mentioned in the W3 HTML 
4.01 spec[1] works with ANY browser?

I've tried:
<td align="char" char=".">
<td align=".">
<td style="text-align:','">

in IE 5.0, 5.5, NN 4.7, 6.0, Mozilla 0.92, Opera 5.11 on respective Win98 
and Win2k machines. Nada.

Mark Cheng mentioned in an August thread titled 'Decimal align' that he got 
this to work in certain browsers using style sheets.

Any ideas? Anyone?
