Jeff this is rather long winded but I've included a lot of links that have
come from this group of very helpful people, please excuse any doubles, I
didn't proof the list. The answers below are from my experience. I have
found that the contract although it has to protect you should be geared
towards the client and what the need or what you can offer them.

1.When writing a contract, which I will have to do because I cant afford to
pay for a lawyer right now, who generally maintains the "rights" to the
work. I would expect a company to want to own their logo, but what about
web pages and stuff.

The client owns whatever logo's, graphics, or proprietary information they
give you, however, the work you do for them on the design side of things is
yours until payment is made in full. You can not claim rights to something
that wasn't yours to begin with. You may want to stipulate that you retain
the right to any code you develop specifically for this web site.

2.Is it a normal, in a contract to specify what "company" the client uses if
they want to reproduce any of the product you give them, e.g.. brochures

In your contract you can negotiate the design of a brochure using outside
sources for an additional costs to the client, but once they have paid you
in full for the web site you designed for them, they can do what they want
with it, if that means having someone else develop a brochure, then that's
ok.

3.I know its allot to ask but if anyone could provide a short example. Very
new to business and what to do my research before I start taking too many
clients.
