[thelist] Use JavaScript includes to insert PHP into a site?

I should add to this that the PHP page on the server end does this:

document.write("<? PHPSTUFF ?>");

PHPSTUFF being whatever functions, etc. you want to output to the page.

There's probably a better or more conventional method, and I'm sure someone
else can say why what I've done won't always work, but this is what I did.
I'd love to know why it's no good, though, if it is, indeed, no good.
