Joel,

You can have a look at the French train company www.voyages-sncf.com

Try to book a ticket and you'll see at some point the possibility to choose
your date from a calendar. This displays a popup. Look at the code. (there
might even be some original copyright somewhere).

It's not very complicated to rewrite that.
I did.
