I know I sound like a broken record, but traffic reporting/analysis programs do all this - no reinvention of the wheel is necessary. You run a report once a week or once a month, and all the info is there. Maybe his host offers traffic reporting/analysis for a slight additional fee? Would save you a ton of work...
