Wow what a hairball.

One of the most important things to note is that Windows does not
anti-alias by default.  The user has to turn it on via the Display
control panel.  Windows XP actually uses Microsoft's new ClearType
method which is more than just anti-aliasing.  ClearType is also
turned off by default.

Your creative should be far more worried about the different metrics
used in similar fonts.  And what variants (italics, bold, oblique,..)
are included in the font file....
Plus there's always point translation into pixel against different
DPI's......
