This solution, (save as in excel), works nicely, but requires Excel 2002,
(also part of Office XP).
You can also try www.xmlspy.com I have used their xmlspy IDE software before
for some obsequious conversions. It worked nicely. (there is a free demo
download at their site).

To be more precise.
Create a blank Access database.
Then go to File/Get External Data/Import
Choose a file type of .xsl, and select your spreadsheet
Voila.
