First things first...

Nick Wilson -- did you get your 1px question answered, resolved?
If not, holler at me -- I've found a few CSS-driven workarounds from
Zeldman that I've had to use recently. Not going to post it if you've
gotten this matter solved, though. (don't want to waste time here...)

Secondly, although in general I concur w/ djc on some issues I
can and will say, at some risk, that his latest cranky rant was just
as bad as some of the other off-color remarks and comments.

Threatening to w/hold posts from someone is a power trip, plain
and simple. Don't abuse your "power", don't ever threaten and
don't ever accuse -- you want us to go elsewhere?

Sure, in the past two weeks or so since I've been on this post I
see this to be a *damn* good one -- not so much helpful to me
in specific, but nice to see the interaction, the different global
thoughts, the different *opinions* -- gee, can we have that???

As for abortions, church/religion, et. al -- is using the word
"bullshit" any better? You say, _e_ither, I say e_i_ther... C'mon,
what gives you the right to swear, curse, slap people around???

What's wrong w/ paying w/ a "tip" just for the happy use of this
post? It doesn't cheapen the site -- it enriches the site. If a "tip"
is only a penalty then perhaps it shouldn't be -- did I misinterpret
your rant?

And of course some of these people are posting just to hear
themselves talk -- geesh and duh! This is some of the only
stimulation some people get in their "locked-in-a-closet-day-to-day"
grind. Let them have some fresh air now and then -- would it
really be that bad?

Okay, soapboxes -- sure, we can all do w/out them, in general. I
don't think that's the case, though.

An opinion is just that. And telling me, or anyone, that we can't
post our opins on certain issues is basically censorship (remember
your "bullshit" comment... hmmmm?) and what the heck is the
point of that.

Lastly, cause I'm just tired of typing and have more work to do before
I get to call it a day at 4AM (in about 11 hours...) if you are cranky
it's prolly from something else -- not off-list posts. Perhaps that's
just me, though... You getting enough sleep there?

.... djc's post ....

I don't know why, but over the past week, there has been a blatant
disregard about off-topic posting to this list.

Including a TIP in your post doesn't make it OK for you to post
offtopic. A TIP should only be used when you roam offtopic from an
*ONTOPIC* thread, not for when you just want to post some sort of
bullshit. Ok? Don't cheapen them.

Second, if you're just posting to thelist to hear yourself talk, or
because you think you've got some ultra-super point of view on a subject
that everyone should hear, don't. Most of the time, people don't give a
shit about you waxing poetic. If someone asks a question, it's not your
place to go off on a tangent about how they're doing something wrong, or
why you think what they're asking about is inaccessable/wrong/whatever.
I've been guilty of it to in the last Flash thread, which is a good
example. If you've just gotta get your opinion out there, write it up as
an article and submit it to evolt's Commentary section.

If you have a bone to pick with someone, flame them offlist.

Don't *EVER* include religion/politics/abortion matters in a post to
this list. No tip makes up for that. If you think you've got something
to say, send it to thechat list http://lists.evolt.org/listinfo/thechat
- NOT here. If I start seeing people including little religous barbs or
similar behavior like Scott does below, I'll start holding posts from
you, plain and simple. Ok?

Read the archives before you post. http://lists.evolt.org/archive - this
goes for old timers too. 3 years of web development talk is there for
you to use, and chances are your question has already been answered.. Twice.

This isn't a bulliten board. It's not IRC or an IM. It's a web
development mailing list thats *damn* good. Do your part to keep it that
way.
.... end ....

Have a nice day everyone -- hope to see you all again real soon!

-_- D.

P.S. Anybody reading down this far... I wonder if there is a way
to get similar/like threads together so you don't have to scroll the
entire list to find where posts are that pertain to similar topics,
etc... Am I missing something?
