[thelist] Hiermenus is licensed now?

Yes, it does cost a fortune. Something like $500 for sites with 20 or less pages all the way up to $1495 for sites with more than 50 pages. If you send an e-mail to the address on the Hiermenus page, they'll send you the breakdown. I doubt anyone is grandfathered in. As far as "already having it on your hard drive," well stealing shareware is still stealing. I'm kinda surprised (okay, not really) that they didn't make an older version, like version 3, "freeware," and start charging only for the latest version. As it is, I don't have a single client that is willing to pay $1495 (most have more than 50 pages).

I'm now using Fireworks menus for most sites and exploring my options for other sites (I don't have the time, energy or the chops to roll my own right now). I'm just glad I've only used HM on personal stuff and sites for friends. I'd hate to have them go after a client or go to a client and explain the new licensing situation. That would suck.

Has anyone visited the Hiermenus site recently?
(http://www.webreference.com/dhtml/hiermenus/). Apparently, it's suddenly
been licensed, and you have to pay for its use. They're only showing the
non-commercial price on their site - does anyone know what sort of price
they're charging commercial sites. Also, how are they going to go about
implementing this - is it a case of 'from now on, you must pay' but you're
okay if you're using it before a certain date? Unlikely I would think,
since you have all the .js code sitting on your h/d and you can just keep
making copies every time a new client comes on board...
