In fact, something that I would recommend to people is, always use either
.htm or .html for your main language pages.
eg. if the majority of your site is ASP, use either .htm or .html (make IIS
serve these as ASP)
This will give you loads of scope for the inevitable day when policy
changes forces you to move server and language.

Saves the nightmare of mod_rewrite/symlinks/virtual directories/redirects
etc. You move the site and it just works :)
