transitional...  strict is often too strict for many of my client projects, although
for poops and giggles, i sometimes use it on personal stuff just to keep my
skills sharp...

always a good plan...  i'd still stick with HTML 4.01 transitional for that, it
offers the most features of any HTML version as well as the greatest
support... it's also easier to integrate with 3rd party apps, since i don't know of
any e-comm packages that do XHTML yet...
