And to add on to my own post (after reading through other ppl's
thoughts), I'd also have to agree with the whole "no need for real
content" thing. This is probably the biggest difference between blogs
today and my example of content on websites and usenet (and someone
elses comments about old style BBSs).
This is something I have indulged in on bfbowl.com myself, and it
frankly is *fun*, mainly for the reason that its like a conversation.
Rather than a transaction, its a conversational style communication.
There doesn't have to be any real content or "meaning", its just
exchange of information (even if the information has no real body of
data or value) for the sake of the exchange.
It personalizes everything to a degree, somewhat like the recent
popularity of WWW BBSs (I know they have always remained popular but
I've noticed more widespread popularity in recent years beyond that of
just interest groups).
