The pre-defined components (menus, checkboxes, etc) were introduced
in MX. Flash 5 doesn't know about them, so there would be nothing
they could be backward compatible with.
You will certainly be able to find a Smart Clip that does what you
want for Flash 5 ... poke around the developer's exchange at
macromedia.com. I've not worked with smart clips (or the MX
components library for that matter) ... but a smart clip would solve
your problem.
Or, you can create your own multi-level menu that will work in Flash
5. This takes a different level of "from SCRATCH", though.
