does anyone have a definitive answer where some authoritive governing body has
declared what is the correct way to say web site or is it website?

I have personally used the web site method

For what it's worth, I noticed on both sites on the "webpage" page that of
the six software graphics the second one, W3Ccss, has the border set to "0"
while the other five have a border. The first one,  W3Cxhtml shows the
border extending beyond the right side of it....in my IE5.5 anyway. Perhaps
consider setting all the borders to "0"? Just a thought. Other than that, to
me, it looks sharp.
