I have both of those books. I suggest both of them, but only after you get
either:
PHP and MySQL Web Development
by Luke Welling, Laura Thomson
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0672317842/qid=1019516086/sr=8-1/ref=
sr_8_71_1/103-1789033-4602202

or...

MySQL/PHP Database Applications
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0764535374/qid=1019516165/sr=1-4/ref=
sr_1_4/103-1789033-4602202

I reccomend these 2 because they are very instructive about the issues
surrounding application design and planning, and how to use PHP/MySQL to do
the kinds of things that you are likely to want to do. Both come with CDs
that have example code.

Both of the books you mentioned are excellent references that you ought to
have on your desk to augment the knowledge you get from the 2 books I
suggested.

hth,
John
