Obviously, there is no way to know this true figure for the individual.
There are too many variables.  Did they look at your page, get a coffee,
then come back and continue browsing?  Did they look at your page, open to
another site, then continue?  etc.

However, if you are looking for a decent idea of how long users are spending
on your site and your traffic volume is high enough, you should be able to
get some idea.

Just set a cookie with the time when they enter your site and update that
cookie every time they hit a page.  Of course, you won't know how much time
they spent on the last page of your site...
