How many of you on this list are single in-house developers for
traditional ad agencies that are responsible for all facets of client side
development including the planning and outsourcing of server side

... how do you guys handle your projects so that the stuff you miss gets
caught when you're the sole developer?

You had better have some good project management experience with a complete
understanding and documentation of what goes into each and every project. If
not you're going to miss something. Even at that, you're likely to miss
something. The only way to have any assurance is to begin each project with
documentation, then there is a guide to manage the project from.

As far as programming/coding goes, it works or it doesn't.

Familiar with Microsoft? Just their existance proves the above statement
false, as in the following code;
