So, to summarize your comments Steve: circumstances could change due to
outside forces or internal choice. The work environment itself, the browser
of choice, the platform of choice, the web app itself; all subject to
change. And coding in a manner that will adapt to change is better than
coding in a manner that needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

This sounds a lot like what WaSP and company have been saying for quite a
while. While aardvark's exceptions seem valid, you make some very good
points for general use. Nicely written, and your personal experiences help
drive the point home.

Why don't you organize it into an article about why even intranets should be
coded to standards?
