Our friend Jacob uses breadcrumbs. There are a few details here - http://www.useit.com/about/nographics.html Personally I like breadcrumbs - its reassuring to know where you are relative to the rest of the content, and often with an easy link home. Its also good when the breadcrumb text matches the text used in the navigation, and the directory structure of the site (eg 'domain.com/cars/convertables' shows 'Home > Cars > Convertibles') - makes the site look well thought out.
