more importantly, do you think that other developers might have issues with
it not being as readable?

i've personally always shied away from using the shortened version because
it makes it harder to scan the styles looking for a particular color.  for
me, it's easier if they're all 6 characters.  i'm so insistent about this
point that i'll actually scan through the file i'm working on looking for 3
character color references.  i'll then do a quick search and replace
converting them to their 6 character equivalent.
