Geocities might one day disappear off the face of the earth. Remind
your clients of the .com bust; plenty of free services have either
died or started charging for access.

Their visitors bookmark their site, and other people link to it. If
they have to move it one day, all those links will break.

The minimum they should do is get their own domain name. You can get
a .org for 12 Euros a year from www.gandi.net, or less if you shop
around (but gandi are fantastic - i'm a very satisfied customer).
Gandi (and many other registrars) will set up a redirect for web and
email at no extra charge, so they can stay at the free host if they
must.

At least this way when they do decide to change hosts, they don't
have to change their URL.

Of course, there are also strong branding and perception reasons why
they should get a real host (low-traffic virtual host plans can be
found very cheaply). Why print up letterhead, rather than just
writing the name of your organisation in biro on butchers paper? I'm
sure others on the list will cover these issues.

Regards,

V.
