I think I sort of misstated the problem. Let me try again.

Rather than disabling the link, what I meant was how do I take the
'focus' off the link so that it is no longer in the 'active' state (as
in a:active). You know how when you click an href that targets a new
window (or prompt, or alert) and then you toggle (alt tab) back to the
parent window how the link is in the active/focused state (with the
dotted border around it)? I want to prevent that cause it's interfering
with a onkeypress behavior which is in another part of the application.
Hope this is more clear.

Any ideas?
