depending on how much you like alerts when you surf, in IE5.5/win
(which is what i have right here):

Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level > ActiveX controls
and plug-ins

by default i make everything either disabled, or, if i want to choose
which Flash i see on a case by case basis, and i don't mind constant
alert boxen, then i set 'Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins' to
prompt...

or, heh, i surf in Lynx...

in O6/win, File > Preferences > Multimedia > Enable Plug-ins...

i'd look some more in mozilla, but it's hosing on me...
