The PID file usually goes in the ./logs subdirectory of the apache
installation; does C:/apache exist, as a directory writable by the
apache process?

This doesn't exist, i did change the config file to point to where apache
resides but nothing, do I need to create something new?

i haven't changed anything for the first question! So I have

<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1>
    Port 80
    CustomLog "c:/program files/apache group/apache/logs/main_site_test.log"
combined
    ServerAdmin you at example.com
    DocumentRoot "c:/program files/apache group/apache/htdocs"
    ServerName localhost
</VirtualHost>

Not sure those two are related, but --

OK, is the name and IP address you've given the server valid? As in
exists in DNS or at least your hosts file (and the IP address matches
that of your computer)?
