FTP might be a solution, but CFFTP will not help you.  CFFTP is used when
the server is acting as the FTP client.  To use FTP in this case, you'd need
to set up an account for the user and ask them to upload the 1 Gig file into
their folder after logging in.  You could then either read straight from the
folder occasionally to scan for new uploads or ask them to visit a URL that
would fire the process to handle the file.

However, you may want to add more RAM.  Messing with 1 Gig files when all
you have is 1 Gig of physical memory will usually lead to problems like the
one you've already encountered.  It is possible that FTP will fail as well.
