Hi,

I couldn't find the answer on google or their FAQ so I hope one of you
can help.

What is the cause of the 406 errors I'm getting from googlebot?

(some old logging follows)

access_log:
crawler12.googlebot.com - - [08/Aug/2002:08:15:44 +0200] "GET /contact
HTTP/1.0" 406 426 "-" "Googlebot/2.1
(+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)"

error_log:
[Thu Aug 8 08:15:44 2002] [error] [client 64.68.82.66] no acceptable
variant: /usr/local/apache/htdocs/contact

I'm using mod_negotiation and it seems like a lot of bots return a 406
error.

The page (http://example.com/contact and
http://excample.com/contact.php) works fine in normal browsers, so what
gives?

I'm using Apache 1.3.26 and PHP 4.1.2

Kind regards

// Magnus
