[thelist] [OT] upgrading Mac from OS9 to OSX, thoughts?

Installing OSX is not so much about 'upgrading' as installing a new
and completely different OS.
Old programs will only run under emulation, if at all.
If you have a spare disc / partition it is very easy to install. You
should probably not install it on his current drive without a
complete back-up.

It can take a while to get used to and customise to work the way you
want it, but that's his problem, right?

I have OSX installed but still use OS9 because QuarkXPress and
Acrobat Distiller only run under OS9, but if I were webdesign-only I
would almost certainly use OSX for it's built-in apache web server.

Installing OSX on a blank drive is as easy as can be. Point, click,
get a cup of tea.
Most of the time will be spent installing the new apps.
