[thelist] Technology change

Do you have your own server?

Transactions allow you to add/change data for multiple tables
with a single commit, stopping orphans appearing.

I don't think you would need them looking at your site. This
means you can use the lickety split version of mySQL Tables
MyISAM.

for more detail and a better explanation check out
http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Table_types.html

on the .net stuff, if you like Java and what it can do .net
has a similar approach and is very powerful.

Cheers, Ant.

Ant,
You say you 'don't have transactions enabled'. (I'm going to show my real
level of ability here...gulp). Can you explain what this means? Given that
you've seen what the BigBarn site does, would this have any significance? So
far MySQL is winning the race!!!!
Cheers, Matt

Never had any problems with stability on any of my sites,
(I don't have transactions enabled)
its faster, simpler and a lot cheaper than MS SQL, with
good support and documentation from MySQL.com.

The real benefit of MS SQL is that most hosts will provide
win boxes and MS SQL, but rarely Windows and MySQL.

I use both, but prefer MySQL for Web stuff.

Although I'm more and more cautious with professing MySQL on a Windows box.
On my machine it sure is unstable (and from what I hear with friends it's
the same on theirs).

Making a transition from Access to MS SQL Server can also be an alternative
and fits in this "build on your knowledge" approach.

My two cents of euros.
