AFAIK, most commercial shopping cart applications provide this
functionality, although on some its user opt-in only. You might also
want to look into -- and I hate using this word -- "turnkey"
applications for e-commerce have such things built in.

If you are thinking of designing this yourself, then yes, you will
need a separate email and webserver, although I suppose you could
start off with one box acting as both. If your project is of a large
scope, then I would go with two servers.
