Actually, nevermind...

I tried to install MS CMS anyway, and realized that it had a half-dozen
other pre-requisites such as MS-SQL that I don't have installed and not
sure I can even find them in evaluation versions, but in any case I'm not
doing to try to find/download them over dialup... I'll wait til I'm home.

Sorry for the bother.

The thing that kills me is that all the other stuff is probably on MS'
site somewhere, and how hard would it have been for them to offer some way
to download what I needed as part of the install process??

IIS 5.0 is required for MS CMS to run, but was not found on this machine.
Would you like to download it now?

[Ok] [Cancel]
"

That would be the smart way of doing it.

If you offer a product for evaluation or purchase:

a) make it crystal clear what the requirements are for the product to work

b) If it requires another piece of software and the
other piece isn't found, at least offer a pointer to where it can be
downloaded. If it is another one of your own products, consider
offering an automatic download-if-needed option for the user.

c) Consider one large download package that includes everything it needs
to run, even if part of that package is just a small installer program
that will fetch the latest version of the other software packages.
