why can't you use root relative urls?

using <base href=""> will cause any anchors you might be using to break
unless you apply a very ugly fix to them.  i'm serious about it not being a
solution that won't cause more problems than it'll solve.

to this end, i would highly suggest rethinking your position on root
relative urls and why you think they won't/can't work for you.

a word of advice to everyone else.  whenever possible use root relative urls
whether it be for links, image paths, css paths, paths to external
javascript files, whatever.  it'll make life so much easier.
