[thelist] Hidden character detector

I am trying to import a text datafeed and am having some problems with
it.  The script I am using is being used for eight other datafeeds and
there are no problems with them.  This is what is happening.

During the import, while inserting into the database, it will just stop in
the middle of a word and then insert a new row with the remaining
data.  When I edit the text file and remove the problem line, the script
continues on with no errors until the next problem.

The only thing I can think of would be hidden characters somewhere in the
file that is causing either php or mysql to burp.  I have accounted for
slashes.

Anyone have any suggestions?  Anyone recommend a program that will display
hidden characters?
