[thelist] stat command mail error?

my day to ask questions...

my expertise is not in mail systems, so the following error has little
meaning to me, and whatever googling i've done hasn't given much
discrete information on what this might be:

"The stat command did not succeed.  Mail server pop.XXXXX.com
responded: cannot stat"

anybody here seen this before?  have a real quick explanation for
what it is?
