This thread has been an education for me. I will soon need this information
as we will begin using SSL soon. Now I understand that the page containing
the form data to be transmitted to the web server does not itself have to be
a secure page, but it does need to submit to a secure page. I can see the
advantage of doing it this way in terms of performance. But...

Most folks have been taught to look for the little icon (which varies by
browser) which indicates a secure connection before submitting sensitive
data. In the above scenario, where the page which collects the data itself
is not accessed through https, would the secure icon still show up, since
the form submits via https? This of course it important from a trust
standpoint, if not technically. Thanks.
