if you'd estimate a week, make it three.

ken already addressed this, but i've gotta chime in too. i picked up a dell
poweredge 1550 1u off ebay with 2 years, 11 months warranty, dual 1.26ghz
p4, 1gb of ram, and 2 18gb 10,000rpm scsi drives, and a raid controller for
under $2,700.00. that was last august.

a quick look on ebay, i found the following that are all very reasonably
priced and equipped:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2303813236
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2302735019

some of those boxes could be picked up for just over a grand.

checking with the guy i bought from, he also has some really nice units at
some really nice prices:

(not a client and don't work for, just a happy customer)

desktops that look the same don't necessarily translate into things being
where they seem like they should be, having a gui that protects you from the
terminal, and/or not requiring editing countless .conf files. there's
certainly some value in the experience you've already accumulated in
administering a win2k box.

platform independent? fwiw, the same can be done with iis and webfolders
(on windows) or any webdav capable client.

i personally avoid directly providing email like the plague. it requires
too much time to manage, and generally causes too many headaches. so, i
outsource that portion to a company that specializes in just email hosting.
i'm saved from the headache and my clients get better service and more
features than i could provide on my own.

i think that'd fall well within the limitations specified in the license.
you'd certainly be missing out on some of the fancier things you could do
with cf like anything to do with ecommerce, personalization, searching, etc.
i seriously think you'll see some good things from macromedia now that jrun
for macosx has been released. it's only a matter of time before the q&a
department has given the green light on cfmx pro and enterprise. then
macosx will be added to the ever growing list of support platforms for cfmx.
