[thelist] Server Backup System

Thanks everyone for your input.

Now I see two ways to do it. One is to set up rsync under Cygwin. Or two,
CuteFTP has a VB scripting option, which I just discovered thanks to one of
the messages.

So I will either write or have written a script which:

1. Backs up all web and config folders. Retry until successful if connection
drops. CuteFTP might be best for this.
2. Either rsyncs and copies to a new directory or copies the changed files
to a new directory daily.
3. At the end of 6 days 23 hours and 59 minutes, zips the week's backups and
copies them into a backup folder.
4. Repeat

Then once a month, burn the last four weeks of backups on CDs. Once every
three months, delete the three oldest months of backups. The first time
wait four months to do this to leave a month on the server.

Personally I would rather install Linux on some old PC and make it a backup
server, but hey.>>

I'd do that if I was still in the US and had a few P1's laying around, but
there aren't a lot of "old PC's" in Europe or Central America. We call
those workstations here :)

Best,
Steve
