[thelist] CSS: characters as list item markers?

I'd like to set up an unordered list that would use a double carat character
(similar to >>) as the list item marker. Is this possible with CSS?

The character I'm looking for is called by the ISO code » ... ideally
I'd like to set up the list so this character is enlarged to 125% and used
as the "bullet" for each item in the list.
