: According to the Exchange 2000 docs, Exchange uses the
: IIS SMTP service and does not have it's own internal service
: like version 5 (5.5.?).

: So something is fubarred if you are using Exchange 2000.

Exchange 2000 takes over the IIS SMTP service. The IIS SMTP service is
"enhanced" by the installation of Exchange, and ongoing management is
undertaken via the Exchange Server admin tools (such as System Manager), not
the IIS MMC Snapin.

To the original poster:
I don't mean to be harsh, but I'm not sure how to say this. If you're
running a "big iron" application like Exchange2000, and you don't know how
to admin the SMTP part, then I strongly suggest you go out and get some
books. Now.

What do you do for you backup/restore strategy?!? ('cause that part's a
whole lot more complex!)

Cheers
Ken
