SV: [thelist] Patents screw plug-ins

Short memory?  Remember that Amazon "patented"
one-click ordering *after* everyone was already using
it...to make problems for the competition (Barnes &
Noble).

This is a problem with the (originally
well-intentioned, but antiquated) US patent law. You
don't have to invent it...just patent it...even if
it's been in general use for years. You can probably
find away to patent the air if you try.

The address for complaints is the US Congress. It
doesn't do much good to appeal to the corporate sense
of fair play... if there be such a creature.
