You don't have a true firewall either way.

What you can do is run Start -> Run -> winipcfg  and check your IP address.
If it's 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x or one of the other private subnets, then
NAT is enabled.

If it's a public IP address, then the modem isn't performing any NAT duty.
Your machine is directly connected to the 'net

That said, provided you don't enable File and Print sharing, there's pretty
much nothing running natively on a Windows98 machine that can be hacked
remotely...
