Best thing to do: 
 <a href="#"
rn false;"

Makes it accessible (onkeypress), dumps the evil "javascript:" pseudo
and the JavaScript won't show up on mouseover. 

Elsewise, if for some reason you can't do that: 
;"  onmouseover="window.status='Link action';return true;"> 

And replace the phrase "Link action" with a descriptor of what the link
does (e.g., "Login to the site").
