Whoa - a quick way to start a religious debate! :-)

Before the inevitable responses concerning the evilness of smart-tags,
here's a practical use (it's a very ugly site - I have nothing to do with
it!)

If you use IE, and have Office, you will see the dates underlined. Move your
cursor over the underline. A little box pops-up. Click it to get options
(including adding the event to your Outlook Caledar).

Basically SmartTags are a way of embedding options/information into
documents (and webpages), that allow other users of Office (and IE) to get
this additional information.

Obviously this of most use in an internal/intranet type scenario.
